TOUGH Discounts

How Discounts Work

Discounts listed below are valid up through March 31, 2021 only.
(Discounts may change or be discontinued, effective April 1, 2021)

Major updates are released as a new package (for iTOUGH2 and TOUGHREACT) or module (for TOUGH3 and TOUGH+), and only the latest version of a package or module is available for purchase.

You may be eligible for a discount on the latest version of a package or module if you have already purchased an older version of that package or module. The discount works as follows:

  • For each purchase of an older version, the TOUGH administrator will discount the price of the latest version. The discount is proportional to the price you paid for the older version and the date the older version was downloaded.
    • For each purchase made <= 1 year, 100% of the price of the older version can be applied to the price of the latest version.
    • For each purchase made 1 < to <= 2 years ago, 80% can be applied.
    • For each purchase made 2 < to <= 3 years ago, 60% can be applied.
    • For each purchase made 3 < to <= 4 years ago, 40% can be applied.
    • For each purchase made 4 < to <= 5 years ago, 20% can be applied.
    • For each purchase made > 5 years ago, nothing (0%) can be applied.
    • The timestamp for each purchase is the date the version was downloaded.
  • The total discount is the sum of the discounts for each purchase. There is no refund if the total discount is more than the price of the latest version.
  • For simulators that are licensed as a package (TOUGH3, iTOUGH2, and TOUGHREACT), purchases of older versions of core and EOS modules can be applied to the latest version of the package. For example, if you purchased older versions of iTOUGH2 core and EOS modules, those prices can be applied to the price of the latest version of the iTOUGH2 package.
  • Each purchase can only be applied once. For example, if you purchased an older version of the iTOUGH2 core module, that price cannot be applied to the price of the latest version of the iTOUGH2 package every time you purchase the latest version.
  • Only purchases within a simulator can be applied within that simulator. For example, if you purchased the core module of iTOUGH2, that price cannot be applied to the price of the latest version of the TOUGHREACT package.
  • Only purchases from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory can be applied. Purchases from other vendors, such as DOE and PetraSim, cannot be applied.

A Worked Example

The following is a worked example of a ficticious company receiving a discount. Vandelay Industries made the purchases below and is purchasing the latest version of the iTOUGH2 package on 15 June 2016:

  • Purchased iTOUGH2 core module for $3,600 on 1 January 2012 –> $720 can be applied to the price of the latest version of the iTOUGH2 package ($3,600 * 20% because purchase was 3 < to <=4 years ago).
  • Purchased iTOUGH2 EOS1 module for $900 on 1 January 2012 –> $180 can be applied ($900 * 20% because purchase was 3 < to <=4 years ago).
  • Purchased iTOUGH2 EOS2 module for $900 on 1 January 2013 –> $360 can be applied ($900 * 40% because purchase was 2 < to <=3 years ago).
  • Purchased TOUGH2 core module for $3,000 on 1 January 2014 –> Nothing can be applied (TOUGH2 / TOUGH3 is a different simulator)
  • Purchased TOUGH2 EOS1 module for $1,000 on 1 January 2014 –> Nothing can be applied (TOUGH2 / TOUGH3 is a different simulator)

Therefore a total discount of $1,260 ($720 + $180 + $360) can be applied to the price of the latest version of the iTOUGH2 package.
